PETALING JAYA: MotoGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah (pic) will put his Hari Raya celebrations on hold as he prepares for the Catalunya Grand Prix in Spain this weekend.
Hafizh will be on a mission to defend his rookie top spot after he reclaimed it during the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello two weeks ago.
Hafizh, who is the leading rookie with 17 points after six rounds so far, is already used to celebrating Hari Raya outside the country due to his racing commitments.
“It’s not the first time for me. I am looking forward to the Catalunya GP, which is like my second home race, because I have been based in Spain for quite a long time already.
“The track is my favourite too. I have a really good feeling with the bike and I understand the set-up.
“I can’t wait for this round. I want to do a decent race again and fight for the top rookie spot.
“Physically I’m quite strong now, so I am well prepared,” said Hafizh, whose contract with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 has been extended for the 2019 MotoGP season.
He signed a one-year contract extension with the team last week that will see him make the switch to a factory KTM machine.
