PETALING JAYA: Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor have won the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship’s CP130 team title, thanks to teenage rider Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin.
The 17-year-old Kasma clinched his sixth victory of the season in Round 7 at the Pasir Gudang Stadium in Johor on Sunday.
Kasma got his race off on the wrong foot despite starting on pole position. He found himself in sixth position but caught up and stormed to victory in 15:52.532.
Ahmad Afif Amran clocked 15:56.085 to finish second while Norizman Ismail completed the podium after clocking 15:57.439.
With the 25 points contributed by Kasma, Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor surged to an unassailable 287 points with only three races remaining.
Motul Zeneos Yamaha YY Pang are second on 140 points with Team Harian Metro YTEQ SCK Honda third on 135.
In the battle for the overall individual title, Kasma leads with 150 points. Team-mate Ahmad Fazli Sham is second on 111 points.
“Although I had to fight my way back to the front, I was confident that my bike had the race pace to get the job done. The track was quite narrow but I managed to use the pockets of opportunity well to secure the win,” said Kasma.
Round 8 of the championship will take place in Temerloh, Pahang, on Sept 24-25.
