Zamri fastest at Batu Kawan despite crash

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zamri Baba clocked the fastest time in the CP130 practice session despite crashing in Round Two of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cup Prix at the Batu Kawan Stadium.

The Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda rider clocked the quickest lap of 53.254 on Saturday while junior rider Mohd Hafiz Nor Azman made things sweeter for SCK Honda Racing by coming second fastest in 53.394.

Zamri fell midway through the 15-minute practice session when he attempted to overtake Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor duo Abdul Muhaimin Roslan and Ahmad Fazli Sham, who were leading the time-sheets at that time.

Fortunately, Zamri did not suffer any injuries nor any extensive damage to his bike. The engineers swiftly fixed the machine and within minutes he was back on the track.

“I’m pleased with today’s results and it feels good to carry forward the momentum we had in the first leg,” said Zamri, who finished second in Temerloh (Round One) last month.

Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin of Motul Yamaha YY Pang dominated the CP115 practice round when he posted the fastest lap of 54.523. Tengku Amirul, who won in Temerloh, became the only rider to dip under 55 seconds.

Second quickest in the intermediate class was Petronas Yamaha CKJ’s Ahmad Syukran Aizat (55.362) and third fastest was Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor’s Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin (55.397).
