Rahul hoping for podium finishes in this year's F4

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Rahul Mayer was the first driver to confirm his F4 plans for 2014 after agreeing in October to a deal to remain with the Hillspeed team for another year.

The 17-year-old enjoyed a progressive first season of British competition and is now aiming for regular podium finishes this year.

“I’m extremely excited for the new season.

“It was a great learning curve for me last year and I hope to put that newfound knowledge to good use this year.

“My main goal is to get to the front of the pack and grab some podium finishes,” said Rahul.

He admits that he is delighted to remain with the Hillspeed team and is looking forward to extending the relationship this year.

“They are an excellent team to work with.

“I couldn’t have moved up the grid the way I did without their help - they are always friendly and highly supportive.”

Rahul believes that his knowledge of the circuits F4 will race on again this year could potentially give him an advantage over his rivals who are new to the series.

“The biggest thing I learned last year was the type of tracks in Britain as I’m more accustomed to racing on big GP circuits.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on them again as I already got a feel of most of them last year.”

Right now, the Malaysia-based Rahul has to balance racing with his studies and extensive travel arrangements.

“It would be a lot better if I could test as much as the other drivers but since I live in Malaysia and have college commitments here I can’t
afford to have that much track time. I think I managed the year quite well, I just had to be disciplined and ensure all my work and revision was in check!”
