PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah received some good news ahead of his year-end break next month.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) have announced that Australian Anthony West’s result from the French Grand Prix in May 2012 until Oct 19 this year will be wiped away after the rider was found to have used a banned substance in the French GP.
West was handed an 18-month ban by CAS after an appeal by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The ban started on May 20, 2012 and ended on Oct 19 this year.
He finished second in the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix behind Alex De Angelis of San Marino.
Gino Rea (Britain) took third place while Hafizh crossed the finish line in fourth spot.
The decision means Rea will be promoted to second in the race and Hafizh moved up to third.
“This has been an unexpected bonus for my team, myself and my sponsors. It spells further motivation for us to work harder in preparation for my debut season next year,” said Hafizh.
The 19-year-old Hafizh will ride for a full season starting next year with team Petronas Raceline Malaysia.
He will return to the tracks in January to prepare for the official tests in February.
