Weiron secures podium finish in Britain

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Weiron Tan (pic) rounded off his debut Formula Renault BARC season with a podium finish in the final leg at the Silverstone circuit in Britain on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, driving for Fortec Motorsports, was placed third in Race 15. In Race 16, Weiron could only manage to finish 12th after experiencing mechanical failure.

He finished a creditable second overall in the standings in a season which saw him win five races. He finished with 331 points.

Briton Chris Middlehurst emerged champion with 408 points.

“It was a difficult weekend because we struggled to get the car perfect. However, the team have done a superb job all year and I have to thank them for that.

“I am quite satisfied with securing second in the championship. I have to move on and work even harder for next season and perform even better,” said Weiron.
