ARRC to resume after a month break

PETALING JAYA: The Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) will resume after a month’s break with a Japanese double header at the Suzuka International Circuit (Aug 30–Sept 1) and the Autopolis International Race Course (Sept 5–8).

This will be the first time that championship promoters Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn Bhd (TWMR) are hosting two back-to-back races on their calendar in their 18-year history.

In Suzuka, the SuperSports 600cc class will be run on the full track (5.821km) while the Underbone 115cc and Asia Dream Cup classes will race on the 2.243km-long East Course.

The SuperSports 600cc class will also feature a 30-rider grid – the biggest in the series so far – thanks to the maximum number of wildcards received.

Malaysia’s Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman leads the SuperSports 600cc title race with 120 points – 31.5 points ahead of his Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing team-mate Makoto Tamada (88.5 points). Petronas Hong Leong Yamaha’s Mohd Zamri Baba is third overall with 85 points.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Afif Amran remains in control of the Underbone 115cc class with 104 points – just one point ahead of defending champion Hadi Wijaya, of R9 Racing Team. Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing’s Norizman Ismail is third with 82 points.
