Hockey: Malaysia thrashes Taiwan 15-0 in final Asia Cup group match


PETALING JAYA: The national hockey team has thrashed Taiwan 15-0 in their final group stage match in the Asia Cup in Rajgir, India, on Monday (Sept 1).

The goal frenzy at the Bihar Sports University Stadium sealed the Speedy Tigers' spot at top of Group B with maximum points after three matches.

Striker Akhimullah Anuar Essok was the star of the match by scoring five goals, while Ashran Hamsani got his name on the board four times.

Norsyafiq Sumantri got himself a hattrick while Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal, Andywalfian Jeffrynus, and Nik Mohd Aiman Nik Rozemi scored one each.

Malaysia will play in the Super4s next, where the top two teams from Group A and Group B compete for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

Malaysia will meet Group B second place finishers South Korea, Group A winners India, and either China or Japan.

The Super4s fixtures will begin on Wednesday (Sept 3).
