Speedy Tigers lack bite as they lose to France

KUALA LUMPUR: The Speedy Tigers continued their winless run in the Nations Cup when they lost 1-3 to France in their second group match on Monday (June 3).

The national hockey team trailed behind France throughout the match as Timothee Clement scored first through a penalty corner in the fifth minute in Gniezno, Poland.

Malaysia’s Faizal Saari managed to level the score in the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Francois Goyet’s field goal in the 43rd minute gave the French team the lead.

France then sealed their win in the final minute as Etienne Tynevez scored from a penalty stroke.

The chances of making the semi-finals are dwindling for Malaysia as they currently sit third in Group B with one point after a 4-4 draw with Pakistan on Friday, who are in second with four points.

France lead the group with six points, while Canada are without a point and will play against Malaysia next on Wednesday. Only the top two teams advance to the semi-finals.
