Akhimullah gets early goal as Malaysia beat South Korea

All smiles: Akhimullah Anuar Esook celebrates after putting Malaysia in the lead against South Korea.

IPOH: Malaysia scored a solitary goal to beat South Korea in their final round-robin game at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup today (May 10).

Malaysia got the lead early through Akhimullah Anuar Esook, who scored in the seventh minute at the Azlan Shah Stadium.

The match, which lacked excitement compared to the previous games, saw no promising chances or attempts from both sides in the second quarter.

Akhimullah came close to extending the lead in the third quarter, but instead of finishing the shot, he squandered it by flicking it over the goal post.

In the final quarter, Malaysia came close to making it two, but the front pack failed to find the back of the net.

Malaysia will play against New Zealand in the bronze-medal playoff on Saturday, while South Korea face Canada for the fifth-place finish.
