Perak girls storm into semi-finals


PETALING JAYA: Perak girls qualified for the semi-finals of the national Under-16 hockey championships in style with a huge 11-0 win over Sabah.

Playing in Group B at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday, Nur Qaisara Khairi stole the show with five goals in the seventh, 21st, 25th, 35th and 36th minutes.

Sabah have yet to register any points after six matches and are in last spot.

Meanwhile, Group B leaders Melaka, who have already sealed their place, remained unbeaten after edging Terengganu 1-0.

In the group’s other matches, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur played to a 1-1 draw.

In Group A action, Johor blasted 10 goals past hapless Kelantan.

In the boys’ event, Kelantan thrashed Terengganu 6-0 while Perak overcame Kuala Lumpur 3-1 in Group A.

The other matches saw Pahang securing a comfortable 4-0 win over Penang.

In Group B, Negri Sembilan ran riot over Sarawak to win 8-1.

Group B: Negri Sembilan 8 Sarawak 0

Girls

Group A: Johor 10 Kelantan 0

Group B: Perak 11 Sabah 0; Melaka 1 Terengganu 0; Selangor 1 Kuala Lumpur 1.
