Melaka stay unbeaten to book semis spot


PETALING JAYA: Melaka maintained their unbeaten record with a 4-0 win over Sarawak to book their spot in the semi-finals of the girls’ event in the national Under-16 hockey championships.

In the Group B match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Melaka were in control from start to finish and scored their goals through four different players – Lailazatul Izati (second minute), Nur Shafika Sharuddin (33rd), Nur Fitri Fazilah (41st) and Nabihah Farhanah (54th).

This was the team’s fifth win in a row and guaranteed them a spot in the last four with nearest challenger Selangor only earning 10 points so far.

Selangor overcame Sabah with the same score line while Kuala Lumpur enjoyed an even more comfortable 6-1 win over Terengganu.

In Group A, Kedah put in seven unanswered goals past Perlis.

In the boys’ event, Penang edged Perak 2-1 while Pahang overcame Terengganu 3-1 in Group A.
