KUALA LUMPUR: The national men’s and women’s 2026 Asian Games hockey special project squads have been set different targets for their respective first assignments next year.The men’s team have been tasked with getting a positive result in the men’s Junior Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from Jan 21-30.
The women’s squad will take part in the women’s Asian Champions Trophy in South Korea from March 31-April 6, with the aim to build their character and mindset as national players.
Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC)’s national team management committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak said the players – 26 men and 30 women – were selected from the recently-concluded Razak Cup competition.
The special project squads were formed in July and the players would start their centralised training on Monday.
The men’s team coach is Wallace Tan while Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim takes care of the women.
Said Wallace: “We will focus on the technical and tactical aspects in the next three months, but what is important is that the players must have a good attitude. I also want to see the players work hard at every training session and match.”—Bernama.
