IT WAS a lost opportunity to be anointed as a Malaysian Olympian when the lack of funds saw the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) not giving the nod to the national men’s hockey team for the 1960 Games in Rome.

Four years later, Datuk R. Yogeswaran looked set for another Olympics disappointment, until the intervention of Sultan Azlan Shah.

“What happened was I tore my right hamstring just as we were preparing for the team selection to the Tokyo Olympics (1964) as we had qualified earlier.
