KUALA LUMPUR: The national hockey team have three more assignments for the year and 30 players have been picked from the recently-concluded Razak Cup to form the team.
Next month, Malaysia will tour Australia and play in the Super Nine Series in Perth. In addition to the tournament, the Malaysians will play two friendlies against Australia and Argentina.
Then, the team will play in the Asian Champions Trophy in Kakamigahara, Japan, in November followed by a 12-day tour of South Korea in December.
Malaysia will also send a team to the Myanmar SEA Games in December. The team will be made up of seniors and juniors.
“We have released the juniors to the National Juniors team to prepare for the Junior World Cup (in New Delhi from Dec 6-15). So, we’ve picked a new training squad of 30 players for the three assignments,” said national coach Paul Revington.
“Some of these 30 players have trained with the team before. This is another chance for them to show us if they are good enough to make the team.
“Each of the three assignments will have a different set of players. We will give all the players a chance to prove their worth,” said Revington.
On the SEA Games, Revington said he would not be handling the team.
“It’s up to the MHC (Malaysian Hockey Confederation) to decide. It is a mixed team consisting of those who did not make the South Korean trip or the Junior World Cup. Our coaches will not be involved in the Games.”
