NUR Zhafirah Kurniawan was only seven years old when she was spotted by her physical education teacher Clarissa Lee and drafted into the Kuala Lumpur rhythmic gymnastics state programme.

Five years later, Clarissa, who is also the state coach, was brimming with pride after Zhafirah captured the gold for Federal Territories in the team event along with Lezane Tan, Valerie Ng and Erin Chan at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
