KUALA LUMPUR: Sports commissioner Wirdati Mohd Radzi is ready to step in and give suggestions to help resolve the internal feud between the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) affiliates and their president, Rachel Lau.
Wirdati said the MGF affiliates could also take the matter up with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) if they are not satisfied with Rachel’s leadership.
“Should there be issues which cannot be resolved through mediation (between both parties), I can be the middle person to help resolve matters,” said Wirdati.
Seven of the 11 affiliates had openly declared no confidence in Rachel, claiming that the former national gymnast had abused her power as well as failed to run the MGF in a proper and effective manner.
The seven – Penang, Selangor, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, Melaka and Terengganu - have also submitted a jointly-signed letter to MGF secretary Afrita Ariany Nasril urging that an extraordinary general meting (EGM) be held soon as possible.
Rachel was appointed MGF president for the 2019-2021 term in February last year when she won unopposed after incumbent Datuk Jaya Al Bakri did not defend the post. —Bernama
