PETALING JAYA: Gymnasts are in the dark over what events will be contested at the Philippines SEA Games from Nov 30 to Dec 11.
Malaysia Gymnastics Federation (MGF) president Rachel Lau said the number of golds targeted for the Games may be lower as the organisers might cull some events.
“We have yet to receive anything from their side. It is still pending. No one knows the confirmed list, but my guess is the events to be contested will be reduced,” she said.
“So, the target now might be six golds instead.
“The team manager’s meeting will be held after Hari Raya Aidilfitri by Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and we have to prepare the long list of our gymnast before June.
“The confirmed list will be sent by Aug 2. The closing date for entry by name is on Sept 2.”
At the Philippines Games, only the individual events will be contested, and the team events may not be contested as only a few countries have stated their interest in participating.
In the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, the gymnastics squad won 13 gold medals from 20 events.
