Strengthening family ties with Deepavali

Deepavali means time away from training for gymnast Shasangari (second left). Seen here with at her home in Taman Salak Selatan, Kuala Lumpur with her father R. Nagarajan (centre), mother Lim Soo Lin (right) and three siblings Arul Isheen (left), Sivakantanmunish (on Nagarajan's lap) and Jagerdyswarean (second right). - BRIAN MOH/The Star.

PETALING JAYA: Deepavali or Diwali – the Festival of Lights – may have two different spellings, but for Shasangari Sivaneswary Nagarajan it simply means being able to spend quality time with her family.

The national back-up gymnast, who splits her time between school and training at the Gymnasium 1 of the National Sports Council (NSC) says that’s the reason she looks forward to Deepavali the most.
