PETALING JAYA: Young Malaysian golfer Mirabel Ting (pic) shared the lead with Sweden’s Anna Nordfors after making the halfway cut at the LPGA Q-School Qualifying Stage in Venice, Florida.
Mirabel sank three birdies on the first four holes to finish with a three-under 69 on Thursday, which was enough to keep her at the top of the field of 197 golfers at the halfway stage.
The 20-year-old, who opened with a superb seven-under 65, has a total of 10-under 134 as they all prepare to play the final two rounds for the chance to post a top 45 finish to advance to the Final Qualifying Stage of LPGA Q-School.
The participants had to play the tournament at both the Panther Course and the Bobcat Course at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice.
Mirabel is pleased to survive the initial cut and hoping she can continue to carry the momentum for the weekend.
“I was hitting a lot better with my driver today. A little bit of confusion on my irons and putting today. Putts didn’t drop. Well, it’s another day of golf but I’m quite happy with how I played today and how patient I stayed on the golf course,” she was quoted in the LPGA website.
Sarawak-born Mirabel had a standout amateur career playing for Florida State University, winning five titles this year and was ranked world No. 2 before deciding to turn pro in July.
