AS part of their efforts to raise funds to relocate to a new property, Paws Animal Welfare Society (Paws) is preparing to host a golf tournament.
In a statement, Paws said: “One of their initiatives to raise funds is the Paws Better Malaysia Foundation Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament 2022, to be held at Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 9.”
The entry fee for an individual player is RM1,000 and RM4,000 for a flight of four.
Outlining the need to host the tournament, the statement read: “The plot of land along the old Subang airport road on which the facility has been located for 34 years has been gazetted as road reserve land by the government.
“With this land soon to be developed, the Land Office gave Paws two months to relocate.
“The government did give the shelter an alternative plot in Ara Damansara, but it is an empty piece of land divided by a road reserve. This is where Paws’ new facility is going to be built.”
The statement added that Paws is “registered under the Registry of Societies in Malaysia and is led by an elected committee.
“It is a non-profit animal shelter in Petaling Jaya that has been in operation since 1987.
“They receive the surrender of unwanted cats and dogs, which they vaccinate, deworm, medicate, neuter or spay, and put up for adoption.
“Currently, there are over 250 cats and 250 dogs under their care.
“The shelter and all costs involved in running it are entirely funded by the generous donations of the public, as well as proceeds from charitable events,” the statement said
It added that all donations to Paws are tax-deductible under subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967, and a tax-free receipt will be issued.
“Besides enjoying a good game of golf at Bukit Jalil, highlights of the event include lunch, cocktails, a talk show, live band, dinner, charity auction, lucky draw and a closing ceremony.
“There are still slots available for tournament sponsors.”
