Honma launch new irons, fairway woods and hybrids

For competitive to mid-handicap golfers, the TR line is now a full family of clubs.

OVER the past few months Honma have been making their mark with the premium-performance TR20 drivers and irons and gaining a greater share in the equipment market.

With the ongoing collaboration between their Japan and US development they have launched four new products with improved performance to round out the TR family – TR21X irons, TR21 fairway woods and TR21 hybrids.

Targeting competitive to mid-handicap golfers, the TR line is a full family of clubs that “players can trust from the tee or approaching the green, ” Honma’s North America general manager Chris McGinley said.

The new TR21 designs “combine 60 years of expert Japanese craftsmanship with the cutting-edge construction and performance-forward thinking expected in the North American market”, he added.

Honma’s director of Global Product Mark Myrhum added that “the distance iron category is the fastest growing iron segment and the TR21X makes a bold statement that offers a lot of confidence to players who put this full set in play”.

Crafted like a blade iron with a slightly longer confidence-building shape, the hollow design has a heavy internal tungsten bar low in the club head that allows the TR21X’s centre of gravity to be positioned deep and low. The design increases launch and improves the club’s MOI for higher initial launch with less twisting on off-centre hits.

The TR21 fairway woods and TR21 hybrids feature a compact and classic profile. They have been essentially designed for golfers who want a narrow-bodied club for crisp turf interaction, shot making and trajectory control.

The TR21 fairway woods feature a SUS630 steel body and an ultra-thin, high-strength steel face that delivers maximum ball speed. Two adjustable sole weights allow the player to set them up for higher launch, or a more penetrating low-spin trajectory.

TR21 Hybrids have a simple, compact profile that inspires confidence to hit long approach shots. They also have a SUS630 body with a thin high-strength steel face with variable-thickness.

The TR21 fairway woods and hybrids come in 15 and 18-degree lofts with Honma-made Sakata Vizard shafts in 50g and 65g weights. Honma’s patented non-rotating hosel system allows loft and lie to be adjusted +/-1 degree in both, while keeping the shaft spine optimised.

The TR21 fairway woods carry a suggested retail price of RM2,100, the TR21 hybrids RM1,859 and TR21X irons (6-11) RM7,100.
