THE Perodua National Amateur Golf Series was launched in Kuala Lumpur and will take to the fairways in 14 states. The first qualifying round will be staged at Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam (KGPA) on March 14.

The concept of the tournament provides an ideal platform for amateur golfers to excel by first competing at state level in a Strokeplay format. The winners of five handicap categories will then move on to represent their states at the national level.

Further to this, the five top players of the five handicap categories from the national final will form the Malaysian team at the world final of the World Amateur Golfers Championship in Mexico from Oct 17 to 24.

For eligibility purposes, participants of the tournament will have to show proof to represent their home state by virtue of their national registration identity card.

Attractive prizes are to be given out for each category, including a car sponsored by Perodua for a hole-in-one.

“The Perodua National Amateur Golf Series offers a great opportunity for amateur golfers, golf clubs, suppliers and corporations to rally together to promote the game and foster fellowship among the golf fraternity, ” the organisers said in a statement.

“Success is assured through sponsorship, with Perodua being the title sponsor and strong support from government agencies, including collaboration with Ministry of Youth and Sports, Tourism Promotion Board and Malaysian Golf Association, with Astro the broadcasting partner.”
