The 26-year-old closed with a four-under 68 to finish on 10-under 278 – nine shots behind winner Lee Westwood of England.
Gavin did not have the best of starts in the first two rounds at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, but a pair of 73 and 70 were good enough for him to finish one shot just above the cutline to make it to the weekend.
The 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion found his footing on the third day, firing a 67, before following it up with a strong final round on Sunday to pocket 65,379 (RM294,400).
Gavin will be pleased to have improved on his tied-32nd result last year.
Gavin had also impressed in his first outing of the season at the South African Open two weeks ago, coming in a creditable tied-15th, making it his best ever start since his European Tour rookie season in 2018.
The two solid results placed Gavin in 38th spot on the season-long Race to Dubai points standings.
He will be competing next at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which begins on Thursday at the Emirates Golf Club.
Gavin’s hectic four-tournament stretch schedule will culminate with the Saudi International from Jan 30-Feb 2.
