A GREAT way to assess your angle of attack and its consistency is through the divots you take. I look to take a shallow divot every time. The key to this is controlling that low point. If you can keep that leading shoulder just ahead of the ball at impact, as at set-up, you will have maintained the swing’s low point. That means consistent ball pressure and better distance control.
Common fault Poor iron distance controlThe biggest problem for amateurs with distance control is clubbing. It’s rare to see them take enough club. but aside from this, distance control suffers through a poor angle of attack and inconsistent pressure on the ball. The theory is that amateurs scoop the ball up, but I don’t see that too much, only maybe when they think they don’t have enough loft. What I do see is a lot of inconsistency in the way they attack the ball. but here is a simple way to improve.
