THE TaylorMade TP5 ilovegolf Tournament at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort in Petaling Jaya, Selangor turned out to be a fun-filled and enjoyable day out for the 106 players, from which Alex Yau departed the most delighted of all.
The 12-handicapper was crowned the champion on countback from Syazwan Kamalul after both returned with 39 points. Amir Benno took third place, also on countback, with 38 points.
For his efforts, Yau got the first pick of an attractive range prizes on offer – he walked away with a TaylorMade M6 irons set worth RM4, 450. Syazwan and Amir both chose TaylorMade drivers.
In the novelty contests, Mohd Abdullah won Nearest-to-Pin prize after his ball came to rest 8ft 10in from the flagstick, while Brian Chee claimed the Nearest-to-Line honours after he left his ball just 1in from the line. The Longest Drive prize went to Ahmad Fuad Murad – he drove his tee shot 253m down the fairway.
TaylorMade ambassadors Keegan Kam and Lawrence Lau were on hand at the “Fastest Ball Speed Challenge” where the players tested and experience the performances of the TaylorMade M5, M6 and M Gloire drivers on the golf course.
Jason Kok won the Challenge with a ball speed of 170mph.
The “Wedge Challenge” had TaylorMade ambassador Alex Tiong explain the importance of proper bounce selection and the benefits of the TaylorMade Hi-Toe wedge.
After players tried the wedges out, Norhisham Hussain came closest to knocking in the hole, with his ball finishing up a mere 1ft 8in from the cup.
The golfers were also given a chance to test TaylorMade’s latest Spider X putters and TP5 & TP5x golf balls at certain holes on the course. And they had a chance to try out the new Garmin Approach S40 GPS watch, Approach G80 GPS launch monitor and Approach Z80 GPS rangefinder during the event.
