PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Gavin Kyle Green (pic) boosted his hopes of qualifying for the European Tour season-ending DP World Tour Championship with another top 10 finish at the Andalucia Masters in Valderrama, Spain.
The 25-year-old carded a two-under 69 on the final day for a share of eighth spot with four other golfers, including Thomas Bjorn, who is Denmark’s most successful golfer with 15 European Tour titles to his name.
Gavin finished the four-day tournament with a two-under 282 total.
He started with a superb five-under 66 on Thursday but dropped back after finishing with 74 and 73 over the next two days.
It was still a fine effort from Gavin, who pocketed a cheque of 61,800 (RM289,000) and it puts him closer to achieving his goal of playing in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in the United Arab Emirates in November.
Gavin started the week ranked 72nd in the Race to Dubai standings but is now ranked 61st after playing 15 tournaments.
The 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion previously scored his best result of the season with a fifth placing at the Belgian Knockout in Antwerp.
Gavin has a chance to reduce the gap further if he does well in two other European Tour outings this month.
Only the top 50 finishers at the end of the season will qualify for the lucrative US$8mil (RM33.16mil) DP World Tour Championship.
Gavin is heading next to the Irish Open this week and then the Scottish Open (July 11-14).
