PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Ainil Johani Bakar posted her best finish in more than two years on the China LPGA Tour (CLPGA) with a joint 25th placing at the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open.

The 29-year-old closed with an even-par 72 to finish on one-over 217 at the Hong Kong Golf Club yesterday.

Ainil, who carded 72-73 in the first two rounds, ended her campaign eight shots behind winner Liu Yan of China.

The last time Ainil registered a top-25 finish was when she tied for 23rd at the Xiamen Orient Masters in October 2017.

Her best CLPGA Tour finish was an eighth placing at the Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge, which was her sole top 10 result in 33 starts.

The other two Malaysians — Michelle Koh and Aretha Pan — failed to impress.

One-time CLPGA Tour winner Michelle signed for a disastrous 79 to finish joint 58th on 10-over 226, slipping 10 places from her overnight position.

Aretha, too, had a day to forget when she could only manage a closing 79 to be placed 61st on 227.

It was certainly disappointing for Aretha, who did well in her previous outings in Hong Kong — finishing tied 23rd in 2017 and tied 16th last year.

Dianne Luke also competed in the 123-woman event but missed the halfway cut.

Except Ainil, the three Malaysians will next participate in the Beijing Ladies Classic and will be joined by Genevieve Ling.
