PETALING JAYA: Malaysian top golfer Gavin Kyle Green has got off to a solid start at the British Masters.
Gavin, 24, opened with a three-under 69 to tie for ninth place in the £3mil (RM16.5mil) European Tour event at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey.
He trails leading English trio Matt Wallace, Tommy Fleetwood and Eddie Pepperell by two shots.
Gavin was five-under after 12 holes courtesy of birdies on the second, sixth, 10th, 11th and 12th but was later pegged back by bogeys on the 15th and 17th.
Still, it was a decent effort to begin with as Gavin is looking to stop the rot after missing the cut in his last three starts at the KLM Open, Portugal Masters and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Gavin opted to pass on the opportunity to play in the US PGA Tour's CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur this week to concentrate on his bid to qualify for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in December.
Only the top 60 point finishers in the Race to Dubai standings will get to play in the season-ending event of the European Tour.
Gavin is currently ranked 89th.
