Tournament part of USM anniversary celebrations

The Mines Golf Club will host the anniversary tournament next month.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is embarking on a series of “Road to USM50” programmes and activities.

Among these is the inaugural AUSM (Awesome) Trophy Charity Tournament that will see USM Chancellor, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in attendance at the Mines Resort & Golf Club on Sept 29.

The tournament will bring together about 100 USM Alumni members, leaders of commerce and industry and golfers from Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Terengganu, and Sarawak.

The aim of the tournament is to raise funds for the USM Special Needs Children Funding for Autism, Deafness, Blindness, Downs, Learning Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy, as well as the upgrading and renovation work of the Persatuan Alumni USM “Awesome House” which is located in Penang.

The event will feature a long list of attractive prizes on offer, including two Jaguar watches, a Peugeot 208 Puretech, a Bonneville Bobber motorcycle, and Callaway and Fourteen iron sets.

Commenting on the tournament, its organising chairman Tan Sri Prof Dzulkifli A. Razak said: “The event is a perfect start to roll out our USM50 celebrations which will be highlighted next month.

“It has been an epic 50-year journey for USM with numerous milestones and achievements.

“This charity golf tournament will be an ideal meeting point for many of our USM Alumni members to reconvene, reconnect and re-establish networking among themselves.

“It will be a fun-filled day for the golfers as they can enter various competitions, including the hole-in-one, longest drive, nearest-to-the-pin, and stand a good chance of winning some grand prizes.”
