KUALA LUMPUR: Seasoned campaigner Airil Rizman Zahari has bagged his eighth PGM Tour title after winning the weather-shortened PGM Miri Closed Championship.
The final round of the RM185,000 tournament at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club yesterday was called off due to heavy rain and Airil, the penultimate round leader, was declared champion.
The 39-year-old former Asian Tour winner carded rounds of 72-73-70 for a three-day total of one-under 215, which secured him a one-shot victory over Shaifubari Muda, Sukree Othman and Kenneth De Silva.
Promising rookie Amir Nazrin Jailani was fifth on 217 while veteran R. Nachimuthu finished sixth a further shot back.
Airil pocketed RM31,500 for his efforts while the three joint runners-up walked away with RM14,645 each.
The next stop for the Asian Development Tour co-sanctioned event is the MIDF Championship, which will be held at the Templer Park Country Club in Rawang from Oct 25-28.
