PETALING JAYA: Indonesia’s Kevin Caesario Akbar is one round away from retaining his boys’ Under-18 crown at the RSGC AmBank Junior Amateur Open Golf Championships.
Kevin scrambled to a two-over 74 to extend his lead to four strokes with a two-day total of two-over 146 at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) on Wednesday.
Lim Beng Keat of Miri Golf Club also carded a 74 to be placed second on 150, while last year’s Under-15 winner Adam Arif Madzri, of Kelab Golf Negeri Subang (KGNS), was a further shot back after carding a 76.
Beng Keat, who won the 2014 Kids Golf World Championship in Johor Baru, has refused to throw in the towel.
“I’m happy with my round today,” said the 17-year-old. “I drove and putted better for an improved score. I’ll try to shoot even lower tomorrow and I’ll try to give the leader a chase.”
The race for the girls’ Under-18 title will go down to the wire, with KGNS’ Warda Amira Abdul Rawof (74) and Singapore’s Callista Chen Wan Qing (72) tied for the lead on three-over 147.
The joint leaders hold a slim one-stroke lead over Filipina Samantha Martirez, who shot the day’s lowest score of two-under 70 to join overnight leader Kelie Kan (76) in joint third spot on 148.
