Singapore golfer Mamat glad home tournament’s back

SINGAPORE: Home favourite Mardan Mamat is relishing the return of the SMBC Singapore Open as it will give him the chance to play on home soil and underline his status as the country’s number one golfer.

The US$1mil (RM4.5mil) tournament starts at the Sentosa Golf Club tomorrow, with Mardan hoping to fend off the challenges of world No. 1 Jordan Spieth of the United States as well as a host of promising young talents that include world No. 26 An Byeong-hun of South Korea and Asian Tour winner Danthai Boonma of Thailand.
