PETALING JAYA: Local golf fans are set to be treated to more top-class action following the unveiling of a new Asian Tour-sanctioned tournament – the Vascory Classic – next year.

The inaugural US$500,000 (RM1.6mil) event will be held from Aug 20-23 next year at the Templer Park Country Club, which hosted the Asian Development Tour co-sanctioned PGM Vascory Templer Park Championship in June.

The latest addition means that Malaysia will now hold four Asian Tour events – the others being the European Tour co-sanctioned Maybank Malaysian Open, the PGA Tour co-sanctioned CIMB Classic and the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.

“We are delighted and honoured to announce the launch of the Vascory Classic in 2015,” said Vascory Land chairman Tan Sri Syed Mohd Yusof Tun Syed Nasir.

The Vascory Classic is the third tournament to be announced by the Asian Tour in recent months, following the launch of ground-breaking stops in Dubai in December and Mauritius next May.

“It’s fantastic to welcome another new and exciting tournament to the Asian Tour next season with the launch of the Vascory Classic,” said Asian Tour chairman Kyi Hla Han said.
