Pimnipa stays ahead in Malaysian Ladies amateur meet

KUALA LUMPUR: Pimnipa Panthong of Thailand moved closer to winning the 31st Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open after maintaining a comfortable three-stroke lead going into the final round on Thursday.

The 16-year-old, did not reproduce her sizzling six-under 66 like she did on the opening round, but her even-72 was good enough to keep her on top of the leaderboard with a six-under 138 total over two days at the Sungai Long Golf and Country Club.

“I was hitting the ball well today but somehow my putting was not as good as yesterday (Tuesday),” said Pimnipa.

“I’m still happy with my game and I enjoyed playing in this course. I hope to have another good round tomorrow (Thursday).”

Compatriot Chayanit Wangahaporn, who sizzled with two birdies and an eagle, shot the lowest score of the day with a three-under 69.

At three shots adrift, Chayanit is probably the only player who could prevent Pimnipa from going home with the title.

Malaysia’s best performer was US-based Genevieve Ling I-Rynn, who climbed from the sixth position to third after a one-under 71 for a two-day total of 144.
