PETALING JAYA: Brett Munson won the PGM Tour’s CCM Rahman Putra Championship after firing a four-under 68 at the Kelab Rahman Putra in Sungai Buloh.
The American finished with an eight-under 208 total that gave him a one-stroke victory over the Thai pair of Annop Tangkamolprasert (69) and Pavit Tangkamolprasert (71) on Saturday.
Malaysia’s Ben Leong shot a 69 for his best finish since his return from a long layoff due to injury. He was tied in fourth place with Japanese Konosuke Nakazato (71) on 210.
Joint sixth were Canadian David Rose (69), Sweden’s Malcolm Kokocinski (71) and Mitsuhiko Hashizume (71) of Japan, another shot back on 211.
In an event reduced to three rounds after the third day was called off due to haze, Munson made his charge with a bogey-free round. He had one birdie on the front nine and another three on the homeward stretch, including a birdie on the 72nd hole that secured the crown.
“I’m very happy to have won here,” he said after receiving a cheque worth RM35,000. “It was not an easy event to play in and win, particularly with the third day being cancelled because of the haze. But overall, I’m happy to have come through and hopefully I can use it to build a more solid season.”
