KLGCC to host Maybank Malaysian Open again

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) will again play host to the prestigious Maybank Malaysian Open, co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, from April 17-20.

Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said the tournament had grown from strength to strength and that “KLGCC is the perfect venue for the tournament”.

“KLGCC provided the backdrop to a superb finish last year and we are pleased it will again be the host. The Malaysian Open is a world-class tournament and it is only fitting that it is hosted at a premier venue like the KLGCC.

“Maybank made a firm commitment to propel Malaysian golf to a higher standard when we first supported the Malaysian Open in 2006.

The Open, jointly sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, boasts the largest Asian participation of 67 out of the 156 player field last year. It has been instrumental in accelerating many Asian champions into the world golf ranking positions,” he said.

Since taking up the title sponsorship nine years ago, Maybank has successfully attracted high-calibre golfers like Rory McIIroy, Louis Oosthuizen, Martin Kaymer, Charl Schwartzel, Padraig Harrington, Charlie Wie, Thongchai Jaidee, K.J. Choi and Alvaro Quiros, to name a few.

Meanwhile, tournament promoters GlobalOne confirmed that the purse will remain at US$2.75m (RM8.9mil) for the 53rd edition of the event.
