Westwood pulls out

ENGLAND’S Lee Westwood has withdrawn from next week’s French Open citing fatigue. The 40-year-old, who tied for 15th at the US Open two weeks ago, said that he has been tired out by a tough run of tournaments leading up to the US Open and that he felt the need to rest and better prepare for the British Open, which starts at Muirfield Golf Club in Scotland on July 18.

The French Open, the oldest golf tournament on continental Europe, will still welcome other members of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team, including Luke Donald, Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell, as well as world number five Matt Kuchar of the United States.
