Aussie Marques keeps his nerve to lift amateur title

PETALING JAYA: Australia’s Kevin Marques made birdies in the last two holes to hold off Thai Poom Saksansin to lift the 111th Malaysian Amateur Open title at the Royal Pahang Golf Club in Kuantan yesterday.

Neck-and-neck with fellow Queenslander and joint overnight leader Taylor Macdonald for much of round, the 23-year-old took advantage of his compatriot’s triple bogey on the 13th to move into the lead to eventually end with a three-under 68.
