Cklamovski unfazed by FIFA challenge

KUALA LUMPUR: National head coach Peter Cklamovski has dismissed suggestions that he is facing the toughest coaching challenge of his career.

Instead, the Australian said he takes pride in leading Harimau Malaya.

“I don’t even think about that (being the toughest coaching challenge). I don’t look back. It’s a simple process - connect to what’s important today,” he said.

“That’s a life philosophy I try to instil in the players, and focus on the day and get better every day.”

Cklamovski made the remarks after Malaysia’s emphatic 5-1 win over Laos in the Asian Cup third-round qualifiers at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Monday (Oct 13).

In the first leg last week, Malaysia beat Laos 3-0.

The coach praised his players for maintaining focus amid external distractions, commending their unity despite the absence of seven mixed-heritage players suspended by FIFA.

“It shows the mentality of the players,” he added.
