KUALA LUMPUR: There’s a renewed sense of positivity in the air ahead of Malaysia’s clash with Laos in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 third-round qualifiers at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.
National coach Peter Cklamovski said his players are fully focused on their mission to deliver another winning performance in front of the home fans.
“We’re preparing to deliver another strong performance and make the nation proud,” said Cklamovski.
“We can’t wait to play at home in front of our fans. We’re building something special.
“I see it in the players’ eyes, hearts, and minds – their determination, discipline, and focus.
“There’s been a lot of talk recently, but none of that affects us. Our focus is entirely on football.”
The Harimau Malaya boss, however, addressed finishing concerns after the team’s previous 3-0 win against Laos, where missed chances were a talking point especially the ones missed by Romel Morales.
“We’re creating chances – that’s positive. Of course, we want to be more ruthless in front of goal, but we’re happy with the attacking play.
“Romel works extremely hard and contributes a lot to the team.”
Cklamovski also reported a clean bill of health in the camp.
“We trained well in Laos, travelled well, and everyone is available for selection,” he confirmed.
“A few players came into camp not at 100%, but they’re progressing.
“Endrick (Dos Santos) had a small issue, but our medical team managed it well. Whoever is selected will be ready to go at 100%.”
Cklamovski also took time to clarify comments that were interpreted as criticism of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), stressing that his intention had been misunderstood.
He has spoken on FAM’s shortcomings after their win against Laos last week.
“I meant no disrespect to FAM. If anyone felt disrespected, I apologise – that wasn’t my intention,” he said.
On other eligibility and squad matters, the coach said Jordan Mintah’s case remains pending due to documentation.
