Selangor back to winning ways as it triumphs over Immigration

PETALING JAYA: Selangor returned to their winning ways in the Super League with a 3-1 victory over Immigration on Sunday (Oct 5) thanks to Faisal Halim's sparkling performance and a clinical second-half display from the team.

Immigration started brightly and could have gone ahead in the sixth minute when Colombian striker Wilmar Jordan received a cross from Nur Azfar Fikri and cut inside to beat a defender.

But his shot was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Azman during the match at the Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang.

The newcomers continued to threaten, registering six attempts in the first half, though their finishing lacked sharpness.

Selangor matched their opponents in chances, with Englishman Zach Clough orchestrating their attacks.

Clough came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute when his clever backheel from close range rolled just inches wide.

In the second half, Selangor shifted gears and took the lead in the 55th minute.

Faisal Halim dazzled down the right flank, beating his marker and cutting the ball back for Alvin Fortes to slot home from close range.

Immigration levelled in the 65th minute through Venezuelan midfielder Eduardo Sosa, who curled a stunning left-footed shot into the top corner to beat Sikh Izhan.

But Selangor hit back almost immediately, regaining the lead when Afghan midfielder Omid Musawi threaded a through ball for Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes, who made no mistake with his finish.

Faisal then capped his impressive outing in the 70th minute, converting a pass from fullback Ahmad Zikri Khalili to seal all three points for the Red Giants.

The win marked Selangor’s third victory of the season, moving them up to fifth in the standings with nine points from six matches. The Red Giants had lost their previous league match to Kuching City 1-0.

Immigration, meanwhile, remains bottom of the 13-team league with just two points.
