PETALING JAYA: It may be the off-season, but Manchester United are not treating their upcoming trip to Malaysia like a vacation.
Set to take on the Asean All-Stars at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday (May 28), the Red Devils are arriving with more than just a commercial agenda.
For manager Ruben Amorim, the fixture is a reflection of what it truly means to wear the Manchester United badge, regardless of the setting or opponent.
"It is amazing to see, even in a difficult season, how many fans this club has. It is a pleasure to see these fans and have that connection," said Amorim ahead of the match.
"That thing makes the club the best in the world."
The Portuguese tactician, known for his tactical sharpness and ability to develop young talent, was quick to emphasise that every game matters.
While some may see the Asean All-Stars showdown as a mere exhibition, Amorim views it as an opportunity to build, learn and, more importantly, honour the support that United continues to receive globally.
"I see it in every game that we play. We have a responsibility. Our fans are watching, so it is important," he said.
"We want to respect this attention and kindness. We want to have a good performance. We have to improve the team."
