Bidoglio: Maintaining consistency is no walk in the park

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) make consistency look easy by continuing to win, but their coach Hector Bidoglio insists that maintaining such high standards is never simple.

Intense training and constant motivation are the cornerstones of a successful team and the Southern Tigers embody these qualities.

JDT are aiming to defend their Malaysia Cup title by securing a place in the final when they take on Terengganu at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri today.

Bidoglio’s side hold a commanding advantage after a dominant 4-0 victory against Terengganu in the first leg, leading many to believe that the tie is already decided.

However, the Venezuelan cautioned against underestimating Terengganu, citing their resilient performance in the Super League, where they put up a strong fight despite losing 0-1 to JDT.

“Yes, we have performed well as a compact unit when facing opponents,” said Bidoglio.

“However, the real challenge now is to maintain our winning momentum.

“It is not an easy task because the players must continue delivering at the same level.

“Moreover, we are up against a team with many quality players who will undoubtedly give their best performance.

“The Malaysia Cup is an important trophy, and we are determined to defend it.”

Meanwhile, Terengganu coach Badrul Afzan Razali confirmed that he will be without Nigerian striker Ismaheel Akinade and goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim due to injury while midfielder Akram Mahinan is suspended.

Given these stebacks and playing away from home, Badrul planned to adopt a defensive strategy.

“I admit that these absences have affected our preparations, particularly in the goalkeeping department. We have already lost our first-choice goalkeeper, Suhaimi Hussin, who has been sidelined for a long period due to injury.

“For this crucial match, we only have Syed (Syed Nasrulhaq Syed Bidin) from the main squad and must rely on Terengganu II’s goalkeeper, Mohd Faris Rifqi Abdul Rashid, to step in,” he said.

“Our focus is on defence. We know JDT’s strength when playing at home... it will not be easy, especially since we are trailing 0-4.

“I constantly remind the players to stay focused and disciplined. A momentary lapse in concentration could cost us, as we saw in our last two matches against JDT.”
