PETALING JAYA: Datuk Joehari Ayub is looking forward to continuing the work of outgoing Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin.
The Sabahan could be the man helming the leading national body, barring any last-minute entry, based on the early list issued by the FAM for their elections on Feb 15.
When asked by reporters about his plans for the body, Joehari, who is the son of former Sabah minister Datuk Mohd Ayub Aman, said he just wants to carry on Hamidin’s legacy and would only reveal his own vision after the elections.
“I’ve known Tan Sri (Hamidin) for almost eight years, and now I’m the vice-president of the body. We are just following the plans he made since he became president in 2018,” said Joehari.
“Once I become president, we will look to enhance some of his plans for Malaysian football - from grassroots to administrative matters.”
Hamidin had launched the FAM Roadmap called F:30, the Affiliates Capacity Enhancement (ACE) project aimed at empowering the affiliates and the Malaysian football DNA, which was spearheaded by former national coach Kim Pan-gon.
Joehari, who has been FAM’s vice-president since 2017, said to be entrusted with the top leadership role without any competition was humbling.
“I want to thank the affiliates for the trust they have shown in me. I am humbled. I hope to get the cooperation of all the affiliates and stakeholders of the game.
The deputy post could also be retained by Datuk Yusoff Mahadi and Datuk S. Sivasundram, as they are the only two names on the list.
