Pahang’s Fandi hopes for good weather in Selangor clash

PETALING JAYA: Pahang coach Fandi Ahmad is praying the rain will stay away when the second match of the last-16 of their Malaysia Cup tie against Selangor takes place at the MBPJ Stadium this Sunday.

The former Singaporean international said playing in the rain and the condition of the water-logged pitch made it difficult for all the players to control the ball like in the first match at the Temerloh Municipal Stadium last Sunday.

Pahang held Selangor to a 1-1 draw in the first match of the last-16 earlier this month.

“I hope it doesn’t rain, win or lose we will know who is better in the second match to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup.

“All the players have to fight hard to try to make sure we qualify at the end of the match,” said Fandi.

He will be counting on two players who performed brilliantly, namely Sean Selvaraj and Sergio Aguero, to lead the charge to break down Selangor’s defence this Sunday.

“Sean was seen playing well lately, including during the friendly against Terengganu during the last Super League break.

“Sean assists Kpah Sherman to add strength in the attack. On the other hand, Aguero is more focused in each match but he needs to be careful as he was shown a yellow card in the first match.”
