PETALING JAYA: Aremu Timothy dented hopes of a Selangor win when he helped Police hold the giants 1-1 in their Super League encounter at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday (Oct 19).

The Nigerian winger scored the equaliser in the 92nd minute when his curled shot fooled Selangor’s defence and debutant goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz.

Selangor drew first blood in the tie when Cape Verdean winger Alvin Fortes’ header beat Police goalkeeper Bryan See in the 16th minute.

What made the draw even sweeter was the fact that Police had to play with 10 men in the last minutes after defender Aliff Najmi Shaaini had to be stretchered off with a knee injury and coach P. Maniam had used all of his five substitutes.

Selangor remain second in the league with 26 points, while Police are fifth with 16 points.

Meanwhile, Kedah took down Terengganu 1-0 in the other Super League game at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar.

Brazilian centreback Cleylton dos Santos scored the winner in the 45th minute. Kedah moved to ninth with 12 points, while Terengganu remained third with 17.

In the evening fixture, Sabah humbled Perak 4-2 at the Manjung Stadium.

The Rhinos’ goals were scored by South Korean wingback Ko Kwang-min (39th), midfielder Stuart Wilkin (44th), Brazilian striker Joao Pedro (83rd) and Spanish playmaker Miguel Cifuentes (88th).

Perak’s goals were scored by Argentinian midfielder and captain Luciano Guaycochea (30th) and Brazilian striker Clayton Silva (49th).

Sabah are fourth with 17 points, while Perak are sixth with 15.
