LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) - RB Leipzig hit the woodwork and missed a second half penalty to stumble to a goalless draw against visitors Union Berlin on Saturday.

Leipzig, who kick off their Champions League season next week against Atletico Madrid, are in second place on seven points from their three league matches.

Xavi Simons' deflected effort flew on to the crossbar in the 68th minute but the hosts wasted their best chance when Lois Openda's 74th minute weak penalty was saved by Union keeper Frederik Ronnow.

Undefeated Union are eighth on five points after three matches.
