More woes as Perak lose and CEO quits

PETALING JAYA: The list of calamities is endless for Perak. First, they were docked six points early in the season over salary arrears, then they lost several games, including to Penang and to Kuching City on Tuesday.

Now, chief executive officer (CEO) Bobie Farid Shamsudin has called it quits.

After Perak lost 1-2 to Kuching City at the Perak Stadium, Bobie announced his resignation on social media.

“I am officially stepping down from my position as interim CEO of Perak. I’ve been away from my business partners for too long. It’s time to get back to real work and real people,” said the CEO of telecommunications company ONEXOX.

“In my opinion, this sport is difficult to fix,” he said.

Bobie took over the CEO role for The Bos Gaurus in May 2022, after the club were deducted six points by the First Instance Body (FIB) for failing to settle salary arrears for players and officials.

On top of that, the teams have not been performing well, having won two and lost five of their seven matches so far.

Head coach Yusri Che Lah said the team had been plagued by a lack of confidence, leading to their third straight home defeat.

Perak scored first in the seventh minute through winger Wan Zack Wan Haikal, but Kuching City responded in the second half with goals in the 58th and 77th minute from Ghanaian striker Jordan Mintah and Ivorian forward Tchetche Kipre.

“We played well in the first half and managed to get a goal. But the momentum wasn’t there in the second half. What I see is a lack of confidence,” said Yusri.

He added that it won’t be easy to get the players to raise their confidence level, but not impossible even though they are in ninth place with six points.

“The players must have the determination to make that change,” he said.

Yusri will be hoping his players dust themselves off and revitalise themselves quickly. Their next Super League fixture is against powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Aug 17.

And there is no indication of who will be CEO at that time.
