Have no fear, goals will come, says Deer’s Spanish striker Junco

PETALING JAYA: Do not worry, the goals will come.

That was the assurance given by Negri Sembilan’s striker Mika Junco from Spain who has yet to open his account with the club since joining them in April.

Junco has started to show glimpses of what he is capable of when he played his part to help the Deer beat Pahang 2-0 in the Super League at the Temerloh Stadium on Saturday.

And the 31-year-old is happy with his progress.

“I hit the crossbar against Pahang. I want to score but I have not but it’s good to see the team winning. We had a tough period but showed resurgence against Pahang,” said the player.

The striker believes he has settled down after playing three Super League matches so far.

“I was the last player to join Negri this season, so I took a while to adapt and we faced giants like Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor at the beginning of the season.

“So there was a struggle but now I’ve adapted to the team’s play and can’t wait to score my first goal for the club.

“I trust myself and I know what I can do to get it.”

Junco does know how to score goals.

When he played for Cambodian club Svay Rieng in 2021, he scored 15 goals in 16 matches. With Kotkan Tyovaen Palloilijat (KTP) in Finland, Junco has played 61 matches and scored 36 goals.

He was also the top scorer and best player of Ykkosliiga (Division Two in Finland) in the 2022 season.

Negri Sembilan are hoping that Junco will live up to his tag as the top striker as the club look to move out from their bottom position in the standings, as they have three points from four games.

Negri’s next game in the Super League is against Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on July 25.
